A RETAIL development scheme to encourage new business could be on the cards for Shirley if the town is successful in its bid for a slice of £1 million funding.
The Government recently announced the £1m sum for towns, cities or villages to pilot the concept of Town Teams - an idea proposed by retail guru Mary Portas in her report into high streets.
A bid has been submitted from Shirley Town Centre Partnership and ideas include a new retail development scheme to help new businesses set up in the town centre.
Chairman of the partnership Jim Ferry said: “A lot of effort was put in by local retailers, community groups and businesses in putting the bid together.”
The partnership would also look at supporting the national ‘IndependentsDay,’ which encourages people to shop locallyand use independentstores.
The partnership will find out if its bid has been successful later thismonth.
