Shirley woman in brothel flat raid

A WOMAN has been charged, following a police raid on an alleged brothel in Shirley.

A WOMAN has been charged, following a police raid on an alleged brothel in Shirley.

Just before Christmas last year, officers had swooped on a flat in Greenhill Way, off the Stratford Road.

The raid came after police received information from the local community.

One woman had been arrested and bailed following the raid, but now she’s been charged with keeping a brothel.

Sgt Rick Poolton, from Shirley neighbourhood team, headed-up the operation.

He said that officers had carried out a detailed investigation before handing all evidence over to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Running a brothel is against the law, under the Sexual Offences Act 1956.

The maximum prison sentence is seven-years for those who are convicted in a crown court.
