WHEN Simone Fox from Knowle bought raffle tickets from Knowle and Dorridge Lions at the Black Boy before Easter little did she think she would win the huge basket of Thornton’s Eggs – and that she would receive it on her 40th birthday, Good Friday.
For over 25 years Knowle and Dorridge Lions have raffled Easter eggs at local pubs for charity. This year they raised over £2,300 for Macmillan Cancer Support, Whizz-Kidz, Lions Campaign SightFirst 2 and local causes at the Drum & Monkey and Black Boy in the run up to Easter.
“We are grateful to the management of both pubs, all their generous customers and Standley’s Solicitors in Knowle for their continued support in covering all the costs in holding these raffles,’ said, raffles organiser Lion John Horton.
‘It was noticeable that the pubs were less busy this year, presumably a reflection of the credit crunch, but one way or another it seems their customers were keen to support us more than ever this year.”
The winner of the other basket of eggs at the Drum & Monkey was Jayne Stoddart from Bentley Heath, who promptly announced she was in training for next month’s Knowle Fun Run, but declined to comment as to whether she would be sharing the eggs, giving them away or just waiting until after the Fun Run before tucking in.
