A TUNEFUL teenager from Bentley Heath has beaten off competition from 1,000 youngsters across the country to reach the semi-finals of a television talent contest run by Disney Channel UK.

Fourteen year old DJ Ajayi was whisked off to Essex last Friday as one of eight young people to sharpen her vocal chords in a bid to win a place in the semi-finals of the contest, which is inspired by the channel’s smash hit original movie Camp Rock.

She attended a four day intensive Camp Rock style training course, undergoing voice and dance training.

DJ Ajayi, said: “My grandma, who used to sing has been a huge influence on me since I was little and this has also encouraged me to write my own songs.

“To get the chance to learn even more at the real Camp Rock is more than I could ever ask for and I know it’s going to be amazing.”

Next month, viewers from across the borough will be able to watch DJ in action every Friday as cameras follow her musical journey.

Disney Channel has been searching the UK for new singing sensations since it launched My Camp Rock in December last year.

Children aged between 8 and 16 years were asked to perform songs from the Camp Rock soundtrack and send in their video entries to the channel.

A panel of Disney Channel and industry judges selected the eight semi-finalists.

The winner will be decided by viewers at the end of April from a batch of four chosen earlier in the month and they will release their own version of a Camp Rock track.
