there could never have been a risk assessment or health and safety assessment carried out before the new Hillfield Park play area equipment was put in place. Why remove two perfectly useful sets of steps at the sides of the two slides and replace them with a muddy, slippery sheet of plastic matting set at an impossibly steep gradient?
This makes it impossible for anyone but the extremely agile from gaining access to the slides unless they walk round the back, facing a very muddy trek.
Whilst there with our three year old grandson we witnessed the difficulty now faced for youngsters using these slides. They were having to hold onto the sides of the slides whilst pulling themselves up and consequently were in danger of having their hands kicked by other children who were already on the slides coming down.
Both my husband and I are by no means ‘past it’ when playing with our grandson but have to say that we were beaten when it came to trying to climb up the matting at the side of the slides.
There is a clear and present danger here and it should be promptly addressed before Solihull Council find themselves facing litigation.
