Manager Chris Pashourtides noticed something fishy going on at Gregory’s Fish and Chip Shop in Green Lane, on February 5, after the man, in his 30s, entered at around 8.30pm.
The thief is then seen on the shop’s CCTV going to pay for a can of pop but as soon as the female cashier opens the till, he lunges and snatches the cash.
Mr Pashourtides said: “I heard the cashier serving shout ‘Chris!’ but when I shouted at him he turned round and ran.
“Luckily he dropped most of the money on the floor. The girl was shaken and crying a bit but she’s alright now, it was the shock of it. It’s not nice but at least he didn’t have a weapon. I was shaking with anger. The flipping cheeky...
“Here we are working trying to make money and he comes in probably to feed some habit. It’s not right.
“Hopefully he gets caught and for the sake of a few pounds, goes down.”
The man is described as a white male, 5ft 9ins tall, medium build, with short brown hair and his face is said to ‘droop’ slightly on the right side. He was wearing a blue tracksuit with red and white marks on the sleeves.
Police have now released the CCTV of the suspect; PC Julie Stokes said they wanted to catch him before he strikes again.
