Smaller project for worshippers

MONKSPATH residents are being asked for their views on the possibility of opening a place of worship in their neighbourhood.

MONKSPATH residents are being asked for their views on the possibility of opening a place of worship in their neighbourhood.

Earlier this month, it emerged that a previous scheme to build a church in the area had fallen through.

The people behind the project had been unable to raise the £400,000 they needed.

As a consequence, a plot of land on the corner of Farmhouse Way, which had been bought by the Methodist and Baptist Churches, had to be sold back to Solihull Council.

But now the denominations are considering pressing ahead with a smaller project for Monkspath worshippers – with help from the local community association

Rev Ken Hawkings, a Baptist minister, said: “We are hoping they might be able to find space for us at their centre in Farmhouse Way.

“Perhaps existing buildings could be adapted for our use. Another idea is for us to buy a house on the estate and convert it into a place of worship.”
