BIRMINGHAM City midfielder Lee Carsley has spent his time off the pitch this season helping students at Solihull College’s Football Development Scheme.
The popular Brummie, who signed up for his boyhood club in 2008 but is due to leave this summer, has been honing his coaching skills with students on a weekly basis.
And he has enjoyed it so much, said the college, that he plans to carry on next season.
“I don’t think there’s any college in the country, let alone the West Midlands, that has this sort of help,” said course leader Mickey Moore.
“Lee has played in the World Cup, Champions League and Premier League and has added real value to our students. They’ve loved having him around.”
The scheme provides young footballers aged 16-19 with an opportunity to combine an academic qualification with a high-quality coaching programme. Trials for September’s course take place on June 1 and 2, and the deadline for applications is May 24.
