A SHIRLEY ale enthusiast has gone from brewing beer in an airing cupboard at home to launching his own ‘micro brewery.’

Steven Whitworth has recently launched Whitworth Brewing Co in Shirley and his first local brew ‘Sobriety’ has already taken real ale professionals by storm.

Steven, aged 40, has been brewing beer as a hobby for the past 15 years. From buying a beer kit and watching it bubble to life in his cupboard, he soon moved on to creating his own recipes. “It has taken nearly 18 months to get the brewery up and running,” Steven said.

“We have moved on from our home made brewery unit to a state of the art micro brewery.”

Solihull CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) has supported Steven with his venture.

Tanworth-in-Arden pub The Warwickshire Lad, is the first to sell the ale. The 4 per cent ABV beer, described as ‘a well balanced thirst quencher,’ will also be sold at the Rowington Club, Bernies in Shirley, Lady Lane Wharf, Earlswood and The Acres in Rowood Drive.
