A BUSINESSMAN has been left thousands of pounds out of pocket after audacious thieves smashed their way into a storage facility and stole his trailer.
Self-employed Paul Clifford, who runs his own food catering business, was furious to discover that the £30,000 trailer had been stolen during a night time raid last month.
In the early hours of July 27, thieves had cut the locks off the security gates at Solihull Storage, on Shirley’s Cranmore Boulevard Industrial Estate.
They then ripped down the security fences, before finally smashing down a metal fence post and dragging the trailer out of the premises.
Paul, from Dickens Heath, said he was left fuming after discovering the trailer was gone when he arrived for work early the next morning.
“I’m absolutely furious,” said the 39-year-old. “I’ve spent the past ten years building this business up and I poured all the money I earned over a year into building this trailer.
“By the mess they made and the trouble they went to getting this out, this clearly wasn’t opportunists, they have stolen to order. Right now I can’t trade and I’ve already lost a couple of thousand pound’s business in the week and a half since it was taken, so I’m trying to find a replacement.”
CCTV cameras show an old white Ford p100-type pick-up driving away from the industrial estate at around 2.50am, turning left onto Highlands Road.
“I’m hoping someone might have seen it,” adds Paul, who is offering a £2,000 reward for information. “It’s a distinctive black trailer with the company’s name [Performance Caterers] on the side.”
