Solihull Care Trust dismisses polyclinic claim

CLAIMS that a new polyclinic in Solihull could lead to the closure of the borough hospital's accident and emergency department have been dismissed by health chiefs.

CLAIMS that a new polyclinic in Solihull could lead to the closure of the borough hospital's accident and emergency department have been dismissed by health chiefs.

The claim comes from prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate Maggie Throup, who spoke out following news that Solihull NHS Care Trust had received approval to spend £300,000 on a multi-purpose health centre on a site at Solihull Hospital in Lode Lane.

"Until a few days ago, we did not know where the proposed polyclinic would be located," said Ms Throup. "Now it looks certain to be on the hospital site. I fear it will threaten the accident and emergency department many residents fought so hard to keep.”However A spokesperson for Solihull Hospital said: "Solihull is a very busy emergency department providing a valuable service to the local community.

“This service is not threatened by the creation of a polyclinic.

"We continue to work with our partners in primary care to make sure patients receive the right treatment in the right place at the right time."
