NEXT month is the dawn of a new era, as it will see a handing over of the role of president of Solihull Chamber of Commerce.
Current president Alan Volkaerts, of Jaguar Land Rover, will step down after a successful two year stint, and we hope, subject to votes at the AGM on March 22, he will be replaced by another big hitter in the West Midlands.
Securing two presidents from firms which are among the region’s biggest and most influential employers would be a good thing for our members.
Not only does it give the Chamber a powerful voice on the UK business stage, but it is also something which may directly benefit the small to medium businesses in the borough.
That’s because Alan is committed to helping support local businesses wherever he can. Alan has frequently urged Solihull’s SMEs to come and speak to JLR to see if there are any opportunities for forming a business relationship.
I am sure our new president will be of a similar mindset when he or she steps into Alan’s shoes at the AGM, which takes place on March 22 at Castle Bromwich Hotel, Chester Road. As a Solihull SME, can you afford not to be there?
