Solihull day centre raised cash for British troops.

THE Mayor of Solihull Councillor Ken Hawkins recently handed a cheque for £440 to Operation Shoebox UK service users at Bacons End Day Centre in Chelmsley Wood.

Operation Shoebox supports UK forces in Afghanistan and the day centre, used mainly by adults with learning difficulties, raised the money by selling sandwiches and ice creams and by baking and selling cakes.

“The money raised is super and it is extra special that the day centre users chose to donate the money to our armed forces rather than use the money to provide much needed resources for their own centre. They really are great people,” said the Mayor.

Anita Robbins of Operation Shoebox UK said: “The generous donation made by the centre will mean so much to our serving troops. Lots of our guys have little or no contact from home so to receive a gift of goodies is truly morale boosting.”
