A 30-YEAR-old man from Solihull has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after an 11-day-old baby died following a two-car smash on the M6.

The baby boy was left fighting for his life following the collision on the southbound carriageway (Hilton Services Cannock) on Sunday, but died in hospital the following day.

His mother and two more of her children, a girl aged four and an 18-month-old boy, were also taken to hospital following the crash at around 4.25pm, but were later discharged with minor injuries.

The mother and her three children were travelling in a grey Seat Leon which was in collision with a silver Mercedes C-class carrying a woman and two men.

One of the men and the woman from the second car were taken to hospital as a precaution, but later discharged.

Officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and have released the 30-year-old on bail.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
