A BUSINESSMAN was told he could have lost his licence after he was caught driving over double the speed limit in Solihull.
Richard Stevens, of Elms Close, Solihull, was caught doing 64mph on a 30mph road between Dovehouse Lane and Old Lode Lane on September 10 last year.
Speaking at Solihull Magistrates Court on Monday, the 32-year-old father of four said he required his car for his business.
“I need my car,” he told magistrates.
“I have four children, my wife doesn’t drive and I am taking a HGV 2 course. I will not be driving at this speed again.”
The bench told Stevens, who pleaded guilty to speeding, it had the power to disqualify him for the speed he was travelling but instead fined him £400 and put six points on his licence.
The defendant was also told to pay £80 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
