SHIRLEY folk are being encouraged to ‘have pride in their town’ as part of a new initiative launched by the town centre partnership.

Local businesses, residents and community groups have been invited to support Shirley town centre on Saturday, April 28 on Pride in your Town Day.

Jim Ferry, chairman of Shirley Town Centre Partnership, said: “Shoppers and visitors like a clean and welcoming environment when going about their business, so we thought it was important that we do our little bit to help Shirley out.

“We do a survey the week before the event to pick up any recent issues and everyone mucks in to tackle the projects on the day.”

Tasks include litter picks, painting benches, refurbishing notice boards and cutting back vegetation.

Shirley businesses have also been asked to spruce up their shop frontages to improve the appearance of the bustling town.

The first pride event will take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm, meeting at the park entrance on Stratford Road.

A further Pride in your Town day is already scheduled for Friday, September 28.

For more information and to confirm your attendance call the town centre manager on 0121 704 8752.
