A TALENTED amateur footballer from Solihull has been shortlisted in a nationwide competition to win a professional player contract with a football league club.
Sam Brooks, a 22-year-old centre-back, will now take part in the first-round trials of Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract that could see him sign up for either Swindon Town or Leyton Orient.
More than 5,000 players from all over the country entered Win A Pro Contract – and Sam, a Lyndon Road resident, is already through to skills testing sessions.
The promising player, who has just returned from a four-year soccer scholarship in America, said: “I’m a natural leader, good in the air and strong in the tackle. Hopefully I can show the coaches how good I am. It’s my dream to play football professionally.”
Ryan Rumley, aged 20 and from Scott Road, Olton, has also been selected to take part in the trials.
