A cancer survivor who has raised almost £100,000 for charity in the past 17 years has been shortlisted for a top award.

Solihull resident Joyce Rothschild has been nominated for the JustGiving Award in the Outstanding Commitment to Fundraising category.

The mother-of-two received her nomination for ‘Joyce’s Quiz’ – her own annual quiz creation, which she launched at the time she was receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer.

The quiz, which has raised over £90,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, has become so popular that it has attracted participants from across the country and abroad.

Joyce said: “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted for a JustGiving Award. The quiz has just kept growing and growing and it’s lovely to be able to give people something that they will enjoy doing. I’ve noticed it becoming a bit of a yearly tradition for people, even with total strangers, and it’s developing a little community.

“I hope that being selected for the shortlist will draw attention to the valued work the Macmillan Cancer Support does and inspire others to think about raising money for charity.”

The JustGiving Awards, now in their fifth year, recognise the outstanding individuals, teams and charities who together helped raise nearly £300 million for good causes over the last year.

Anne-Marie Huby, MD at JustGiving, said: “Fundraising comes in all shapes and sizes and the Outstanding Commitment to Charity Award shortlist really recognises the fundraisers who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to the causes that are important to them.

“Joyce has shown an unbelievable level of longstanding commitment to fundraising, dedicating herself to raising donations for Macmillan Cancer Support year after year.”

JustGiving has selected a shortlist of finalists and it is now over to people to pick a winner for seven of the nine categories. All shortlisted entrants will be opened up to a public vote through the JustGiving Awards Facebook app.

Joyce will be attending the red carpet awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank in London on September 25, where the winners will be announced.
