Solihull Hospital launches award in memory of Ann Green

SOLIHULL Medical Directorate has launched a monthly award for exceptional staff members, named in honour of a veteran nurse who died last year.

SOLIHULL Medical Directorate has launched a monthly award for exceptional staff members, named in honour of a veteran nurse who died last year.

The Green Star, named for Solihull Hospital senior sister Ann Green, takes the form of a £100 prize for staff “making a difference”. There is also a £25 runner-up prize.

Nominations are being solicited from colleagues, patients and relatives.

The first presentation took place in February and recipients have so far included a ward domestic, two nurses and a student nurse.

Ann Green, who lived in Olton, joined Solihull Hospital in January 1984 and was actively involved in organising the move to the new site.

She died in July, aged 46, following a brief diabetes-related illness, and her funeral service was attended by about 150 colleagues, friends and local dignitaries.

Her husband Steve said he was delighted about the creation of the Green Star:

“Ann dedicated her entire adult life to the care of her patients and their families, and the support of her colleagues.

“She believed that every member of the team was invaluable, and would be very proud that an award in her name recognises this collective commitment,” he said.

Nominations can be directed to the quality development office on 0121 424 4621.
