THE former family home of developer dynasty Gallagher is being brought back to life in a stunning renovation and rebuild by Preston Bagot-based Elevate Design & Build.
The Warwickshire-based developers have taken the derelict shell of St Bernards Grange, a once grand mansion in Grange Road, Solihull, and totally transformed it into an imposing elegant family home.
The new look St Bernards Grange is set to be unveiled to the public on Saturday, October 6, with an open house from 11-3pm.
St Bernards Grange was occuped until 1999 and since then it has stood empty while in the ownership of Charles Church Developments.
With a long and chequered planning history, the property fell into disrepair and in 2008 the local council listed the property as part of the Olton Conservation Area.
An essential repairs notice was served and the building was placed in a polythene wrap to preserve the pending repair and reinstatement.
Specialist developer Steve Dodd with his company Elevate Design Build acquired the site in the Spring this year.
"We believe we have retained the original spirit of St Bernards Grange and are pleased to have brought life back into this fine and historic building, he said.
JJ Gallagher was founded by John Gallagher who came to Birmingham from County Mayo in 1929 as a penniless agricultural labourer.
He started a hard core transport company just before the Second World War which then moved into construction. The familys original wealth was made in land development, much of it in and around Solihull.
St Bernards Grange is on the market at s995,000. Further details are available from the agents John Shepherd New Homes on 01564 786644, or those interested can see for themselves at the Open Day on Saturday, October 6, from 11-3pm.
