MEMBERS of Solihull Methodist Church have been celebrating the 75th anniversary of the opening of the building with a variety of events including a special service on June 24.
Rev Sue Ashton from Knowle led the service in the church where, prior to her ordination as an Anglican minister, she had been a popular pastoral worker for seven years.
Other events have included a ‘Songs of Praise’ service attended by the Mayor of Solihull and Lorely Burt MP both of whom read a lesson.
Later in the year the celebrations will culminate in a Church outing to Earlswood and two free performances of the hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ by SMASH, the Church Drama Group on Saturday and Sunday September 29 and 30.
The church was officially opened on June 5 1937 by Mr James Doubleday of Widney Manor and the President of the Methodist Conference, Rev Luke Wiseman.
