Solihull MP Lorely Burt slams cheap alcohol

SOLIHULL’S MP Lorely Burt has said she wholly backs plans to introduce a minimum price on alcohol.

SOLIHULL’S MP Lorely Burt has said she wholly backs plans to introduce a minimum price on alcohol.

She said that plummeting prices in supermarkets fuelled drunken behaviour and were strangling the life from pubs. Under Government proposals, a minimum price of 40p a unit would be imposed in England and Wales.

“It’s going to be a challenge to dramatically change the culture we’ve got at the moment,” said Mrs Burt. “I’m particularly worried about stories of young people tanking up on cheap alcohol before going on a night out.”
