A SOLIHULL pharmacist has teamed up with an award-winning Warwickshire based cider maker to create a drink specifically designed to go with Indian cuisine.
Suresh Patel noticed a gap in the burgeoning cider market when he visited his local Indian restaurant.
“I was offered a huge selection of Indian beers to complement my meal- Cobra, Tiger, Kingfisher - what I really wanted was a good quality cider,” he said.
“Given the continued growth in popularity of cider and the complementary nature of cider with spicy food, it seemed crazy that I couldn’t find what I wanted.”
After researching local brands, Suresh discovered Hogan’s Cider, founded by Allen Hogan.
The tipple is made from 100 per cent fresh-pressed English apples.
Bringing together a quintessentially English drink with an Indian flair, the pair launched Pukhraj Cider, meaning “yellow sapphire” in Hindi after the drink’s golden colour.
And the taste? The premium medium cider balances the flavour of real apples with a bittersweet finish, far less sickly-sweet than many of its rivals. This has been designed to go well with the heat and spice of Indian food.
