Solihull purse thief told to repay pensioner's cash

A CHELMSLEY Wood teenager who admitted stealing a pensioner’s purse from a town centre store has been told he must repay the money.

A CHELMSLEY Wood teenager who admitted stealing a pensioner’s purse from a town centre store has been told he must repay the money.

The 18-year-old, who has no previous convictions, walked into a police station this on Tuesday morning after CCTV footage of the theft was circulated by Solihull Police last week.

He’s been handed a conditional caution on the understanding he must repay £53 to the 78-year-old or be hauled before the court.

Investigating officer PC Julie Stokes, said: “He’s admitted seeing the purse left in the bagging area and slipping it into his jacket pocket; he has no previous convictions so it would appear to be an out-of-character, spur of the moment action.

“He must hand over the money to Solihull Police within seven days, so we can reimburse the lady, or he will be taken to court.”

The pensioner, from Marston Green, was in the Wilkinsons store in Chelmsley Wood town centre on Tuesday June 21 but forgot to pick-up her purse at the check-out.
