INTREPID rower Vickie Brown from npower’s Solihull office enjoyed a fund raising cup of coffee mid-channel in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Vickie was part of a team of eight npower rowers doing the cross Channel voyage in aid of the charity.
The team had been waiting since June to take part in the money-raising venture and they were notified just 24 hours in advance that the conditions made the row possible.
As Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was taking place around the same time, the team decided to give it their support.
The venture, which began in May, has seen the setting of a new cross-Channel record of four hours 26 minutes by the first of the three npower boats, as well as more than £32,000 being raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.
npower’s Coffee Morning organiser, Ruth Worton, is amazed at the fortitude of her colleagues, saying: “Taking part in a cross-Channel row is an amazing achievement, raising money for Macmillan is commendable and adding the sense of the outrageous with a salty sea-dogs coffee morning is wonderful.”
