A CHEF at a Balsall Common school has done her pupils proud after cooking up an award-winning dish in a competition.

Judith Tyrell, aged 44, was crowned the ‘highly commended dessert winner’ on Tuesday after battling it out against five other chefs in the West Midlands School Chef of the Year 2012 competition.

Given just an hour and a half, Judith had to produce a nutritious and tasty main course and dessert, spending no more than £1.50 per child on the whole meal.

Judith, deputy catering manager at Heart of England School, rustled up an ‘Olympic Feast’ chicken casserole for mains with a ‘Pot of Gold’ pudding.
