A TALENTED Solihull Sixth Form College student was shortlisted for the Birmingham Young Poet Laureate award.
Amara Lawrence was one of 12 young people in the running for the title, after submitting four poems. All the entries had to be original work and one of the four had to be based on the theme for this year of ‘stars.’
Although Amara was not crowned Young Poet Laureate for 2012, she said being shortlisted for the award was a ‘huge achievement.’
The 17-year-old said: “Although I think that poetry can be very personal, I think it is also important to share poetry with others who may have a different interpretation.”
