A VETERINARY student from Solihull has been awarded top prize for her time spent with Cats Protection.
The Extra Mural Veterinary Study (EMS) Awards, now in their second year, are part of a scheme enabling third, fourth or fifth year veterinary students the chance to gain hands on work experience at Cats Protection or Dogs Trust to enhance their university studies.
Students are then offered the chance to submit a topic on their experience to go into the running for the prize.
Mary Fletcher, who studies at Nottingham Vet School, was awarded first place and a prize of £500, for her report on environmental enrichment options for cats in the care of rescue/rehoming organisations.
She said: “During my inspirational time at the Cats Protection I learnt a great deal about feline shelter medicine and how important this is in every rescue centre. I even got to play with some cute cats too.”
