Solihull will be left behind

A ‘STREET meeting’ to discuss £540,000 worth of proposals was organised this week at the St John’s Hotel as of the Solihull BID proposal.

Invitations had been sent out, no apologies had been received, a room had been booked and BID co-ordinator Sandra Grinnell and Jane Jackson from Solihull Chamber of Commerce sat there waiting for people to turn up. Only no one, bar yours truly, did.

It must have been slightly embarrassing for them, but even more so for the businesses in Homer Road which were the ones particularly targeted for this meeting.

Sandra and Jane put a brave face on it - ‘the take up of these things is always slow......it will be better in the afternoon with Touchwood businesses’ etc.

Only come the afternoon, guess what? No one turned up again.

For no one to turn up to the first two Street Meetings struck me as pretty disappointing.

One can’t help but feel that if Solihull gets left behind, we will all be the losers.
