THE eighth annual Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sports Awards ceremony has been held with two winners from Solihull.
Held at St John’s Hotel on Warwick Road in Solihull, the awards aim to celebrate those who have made a tremendous contribution to sport.
Among the winners were Solihull’s Samantha Barguss, who picked up the Young Sports Volunteer of the Year award for her work with Solihull Swimming Club.
Fellow volunteer and hockey fanatic Stephen Tabb picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Sports Volunteering gong.
Stephen, who is also chairman of Old Silhillians Hockey Club, said: “It’s fantastic to win this award, especially considering the great work of the other nominees, but I am happy just to be able to help promote hockey.
“It has been a great year – I was a Games Maker at the Olympics where I was the hockey pitch manager during the Games.
“I was working in the morning then doing my eight-hour shift at the Olympics – so I was working 14-hour days – but unsurprisingly the hours in the office seemed more like work than the eight hours at the hockey pitch.”
