TWO friends battled the elements to complete an emotional and challenging trek across the Cumbrian mountains.
Lesley Day, from Shirley, and girl guiding partner Vicki James, recently tackled the 200 mile Wainwright’s Coast to Coast (C2C) walk.
The 21 day trek was a ‘personal challenge’ for the two friends, who both help to run Girl Guiding Warwickshire.
Vicki, aged 62, said: “Wainwright’s C2C is one that Lesley has wanted to do for a number of years. For me it was a very emotional journey. It was on the C2C 21 years ago that my husband Geoff and I decided we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Geoff now has advanced Alzheimer’s and so I wanted to complete this walk as a special memorial to him and to achieve some sort of closure.”
The pair walked from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay which included a trek through the area’s picturesque peaks.
Vicki, a Warwickshire leader, added: “Lesley and I experienced some very hard days, with complete cloud white-out, when we had to use our compass silks to navigate us off the mountains.”
