ARCHERY enthusiast Lindsey Parsons, who grew up in the borough, has hit the target by writing her first novel.
The mum-of-three had tried to put down her ideas for a book on paper when she was only a teenager but found the process a challenge.
But the storylines refused to go away and three years ago she decided to return to writing and have another crack at completing a novel.
“I tried writing it down on paper but it was a bit of a disaster,” said the 46-year-old. “Then I got a laptop and suddenly it was completely different.”
Lindsey, who grew up in Shirley and went to Alderbrook School, said she’d always been fascinated by fantasy novels.
Authors like Cassandra Clare helped inspire her own debut novel Vortex - the first of a trilogy.
“I’ve never read Lord of the Rings though,” she admits.
“Which is strange considering I’m such a massive fantasy fan.”
Lindsey, who now lives in Warwickshire, honing her horse riding and archery skills, urged people not to be put off writing - even if they’d had problems with plots in the pasts.
“I don’t think they should be deterred.
“Even if it seems daft what you’re writing, you can always fix things and make them better once they’re on the page.
“When I was a teenager I found it didn’t work but I’ve carried this world around in my head probably since then.
“I just love telling stories.”
Vortex is out now, available from Amazon.com
