Solihull youngsters honoured at business awards

THE youngest ever finalists in the Midlands Business Awards have received a special commendation for their efforts.

Although Gabriella Gaskin-Farley and brothers Callum and Eachan Allaway were pipped to the Young Entrepreneur of the Year prize by Suleman Sacranie, the judges of the 2012 Midlands Business Awards decided to present a special certificate to mark their efforts.

They received their certificates from sponsor Guy Ashworth of HCK Communications at a ceremony held on Friday, February 3 at the NEC Hilton Metropole Hotel. The trio were by some margin the youngest finalists in the competition, which has marked its sixth year.

Gabriella, a Year 10 pupil at Tudor Grange School, now has her own business called Sassy Shots, which she runs from a studio at her parents’ home.

Callum Allaway, 14, and his 11-year-old brother Eachan have turned their interest in fossils into a business venture, called Beach-Group. It sells fossils, sharks teeth, minerals, crystals and associated jewellery items both online and at trade shows.

The awards are organised by Leamington Spa-based UK Special Events. MD Harj Sandher said: “We are delighted with the success of this year’s competition. It was really pleasing that the independent panel of judges decided to make this additional recognition of the efforts of Gabriella, Callum and Eachan.

“We may well see them enter the competition again, possibly for the next decade because they will still fit within the category then!”

There was also a special Lifetime Contribution to Midlands Business award to vice-chancellor Prof Sir Robert Burgess, recognising his work in growing the University of Leicester.
