LUKE Hannon, from Arden Academy in Solihull came third in this year’s Manufacturing Technology Association’s (MTA) Technology, Design and Innovation (TDI) Challenge 2012.
Open to all Technology and Design students, the nationwide competition was split into two age groups - 14-16 years old and 17-19 years old.
Bob Hunt, chairman of the Education and Training Committee of the MTA, said: “We received a record number of entries, which made selecting the finalists tough but Luke’s design was exceptionally impressive.
“Giving young people the chance to design and create is important, not only as a form of expression and to put into practice what they have learned but also to give us in the industry a taste of how the world could evolve and what the designers of tomorrow will bring with them.”
Luke who was nominated as a finalist for his Multidesk design and came third, said: “It’s been a great experience and I enjoyed looking at the other competitors’ designs. I was really pleased that the judges recognised my work.”
