FURTHER to Mr Dents’s letter (Solihull News December 18, re 54 bus service), I would like to add my comments. I have used this route on most days since 2000 when it was covered by National Express No 4 with modern buses with easy access for all manner of passengers. When Grosvenor took over this route I could foresee it was doomed because of the type of bus it used.
I regularly saw using this service namely, mothers with pushchairs, ladies with their shopping trollies and disabled. I have written to Centro several times on this issue and just received negative replies. I have written again when I discovered more cuts and changes are being made to this service.
With a forthcoming election are the prospective MP candidates and councillors going to bring back this service to how it was with modern buses for the benefit of all the residents in Bills Lane, Baxters Green and Cheswich Green and people like me, I’m sure it would be a great vote catcher.
If nothing is done it will mean more cars on the road adding more congestion in an already congested Shirley plus added pollution. I would add the Grosvenor drivers are very friendly, most helpful it’s just its buses let the service down.
