Special delivery - a Christmas tree for George Osborne from Solihull firm

GROWING businesses are sure to put a smile on the face of Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.

GROWING businesses are sure to put a smile on the face of Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.

But he must have a special soft-spot for the borough company who have been growing something for him.

Woods Farm, in Shirley, this week delivered a 10ft Christmas tree for the Chancellors home at No 11, Downing Street.

Pupils from nearby Woodrush Primary, in Wythall, went to Westminster yesterday (Thursday) to help hand-over the fir.

And its not the first time that Woods Farm has provided some festive foliage for the most famous road in the land.

Last year, a wreath, designed by Ragni Gilbert, was hung next door at No 10 - the home of Prime Minister David Cameron.

Graham Gilbert, who has been growing trees for 40 years, said the farm was delighted to have provided the evergreen.

The business arranged to send the specimen, after Mr Gilbert spoke to the Conservative MP for Bromsgrove, Sajid Javid.

We made a delivery at No 10 last year, so I suppose you could say weve moved next door this said the 55-year-old.

There are an awful lot of trees that come out of Solihull and Warwickshire.

Our plantation is 600 acres which would make it as big as anywhere in England, though theyve got some big sites in Scotland.
