THIS is an open letter to the misguided boards of the Solihull Care Trust and Heart of England Hospitals NHS Trust. My veteran colleagues and I believe time should not pass without again praising the memory of two generous, lovely men (and their supportive wives) who devoted their lives to the welfare of Solihull and Shirley, especially defending Solihull Hospital when under threat.
As leading lights of the eventually successful campaign, they were Richard Lewis, three times Solihull Mayor, and Bernard Price, chairman of the Shirley Residents’ Association.
Their widows Mavis and Vicky have clearly told me that if they were still alive they would certainly be ‘on the front line’ trying to prevent the downgrading of the Solihull Maternity Unit and A&E facilities. Please retain the fully manned services and do not downgrade. It can be done.
Don Bargery, Solihull.
