St George is all out to help mums-to-be

CAMPAIGNING councillor Jim Ryan admits he has been overwhelmed at the scale of the public response to calls for a full maternity service to be retained at Solihull Hospital.

CAMPAIGNING councillor Jim Ryan admits he has been overwhelmed at the scale of the public response to calls for a full maternity service to be retained at Solihull Hospital.

The Bickenhill Conservative councillor spoke after the launch of a petition aimed to persuade Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust to think again over plans to downgrade maternity services at Solihull.

Cllr Ryan plans to fight all the way to the top by mounting a vigil outside the Department of Health in London – dressed as St George.

The veteran campaigner, who was part of a coalition who fought against the merger of Solihull and Heartlands Hospitals and to retain accident and emergency services in Solihull, will be donning a suit of armour.

A special website has also been created which can be accessed by going to www.savesolihullmaternity.co.uk.
