Star billing

THE owner and staff at a cafe/sandwich shop are delighted at being awarded five stars for hygiene by Solihull Council.

Samantha Anderson, owner of Munch, is pleased that the efforts of her team have finally been recognised.

The scheme, coined Scores on the Doors, rates food businesses on how good their food hygiene, cleanliness, cleaning and control is.

The cafe, on the Stratford Road in Shirley, received the five stars - the most available - on August 4.

The owner said they were aiming for four stars but were over the moon to hear the news.

She added: “It’s difficult to get five stars but we have gone over and above what we needed to do.

“We are very hygiene conscious.”

Shops who receive three stars or more are awarded a certificate to put in their window, alerting their success to customers.

Munch, which has been running for five years, will be hoping to attract new customers with their new status.

Samantha said the award meant a lot and they plan to continue in the same manner by keeping up the standards.

She added: “To me, all the hard work of everyone has paid off and it was worth it.”
