Star thank you

I AM hoping that this letter will be printed in order that I can personally thank everyone who was kind enough to vote for me and made it possible for me to become the first Shining Star created by the Shirley Town Centre Partnership.

I AM hoping that this letter will be printed in order that I can personally thank everyone who was kind enough to vote for me and made it possible for me to become the first Shining Star created by the Shirley Town Centre Partnership.

I knew nothing about it until I received a letter congratulating me on my success, but I am not on my own, there are so many people here who work tirelessly to improve the environment in which we live.

I came to Shirley when I was 17 so obviously I have made so many friends and acquaintances through the years, and this must have assisted in who was being chosen which I consider to be an honour and a privilege. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the firms and businesses who kindly supplied some credit notes to use at their premises, which is much appreciated.

Long may our borough continue to be pleasant and a friendly place in which to live and work.

Here’s to HS2

I WOULD like to reiterate H T Harvey on HS2 “Let’s get on with it”.

Can the objectors not see that it is not about saving 20 whatever minutes between Birmingham and London, it’s bigger than that, it’s about connecting the whole of the UK with Europe via rail and keeping up with Europe. We are so far behind it’s unreal. An efficient rail link is vital when it may well be the most cost effective way of getting around in the future, all the number crunching can carry on but this expansion is clearly logical and very necessary.

Staff matter

STAFF turnover, isn’t the same as staff requirements and if you are turning over 600 jobs a year then obviously there’s a problem in your staff morale, so perhaps money would be better spent on keeping staff rather than sacking them, I don’t think I’ve ever read so much gobbledegook as what Lorley Burt MP is trying to sell to the people of Solihull but it certainly is nothing short of rubbish.

All this nonsense about cut backs won’t effect front line services is farcical, every job lost in the NHS is patient care lost in the community, and if anyone believes the political spin that you can take hundreds of jobs out of the Heart of England Foundation Trust and you won’t notice it is either very naive or mentally disturbed.
