HOBS Moat housewife Rachael Kirby has published her first novel - with a little bit of help from Darth Vader.
The mum-of-two received a few pointers from her friend, and Star Wars legend, Dave Prowse.
Now, after 13 years work, her sci-fi novel Black Gemini has hit the book shelves.
“I first met Dave at the NEC’s Memorabilia show many years ago and we got talking,” explained Rachael. “We became close friends and he offered some general advice with the plot and getting the characters just right.
“His help was invaluable and really he was acting as my literary consultant.”
Rachael said that she’d picked up a pen and started to scribble down some ideas after giving birth to her first son, Daniel.
“I’d always fancied writing a book, but it was several years before I started drafting something,” said the 38-year-old.
“After taking maternity leave, I knew that I would have to find something to do to fill my time and that’s how things started.”
Once she’d finished the novel, an unusual mix of science fiction and romance, she took it to several publishers.
But after lots of delays, she decided that the best thing to do would be to publish the story herself.
Now she’s started work on the second book in the trilogy and has many more plotlines safely stashed away.
Black Gemini is available now from www.amazon.co.uk or www.rachaelkirby.co.uk.
