I WELCOME the report by Network Rail outlining the case for a high speed rail line from London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
It is estimated the new line would more than pay for itself and bring significant economic benefits to the West Midlands.
The decision as to where a new line would stop in Birmingham will be made by the Government.
I strongly support calls from local MPs and business leaders for Birmingham International to be served by the new line as it is a vitally important hub and encompasses a wide catchment area.
I have written to the Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, to urge him to ensure that any high speed line serving Birmingham includes a station at Birmingham International.
