Those found flouting the law could be prosecuted, and face a fine.

The council say they will remove any unauthorised bonfires taking place on council-owned land, while the police will be taking a zero tolerance against Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

Cabinet member for safer communities, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen, said: “We know that many people enjoy fireworks at this time of year, and we don’t want to spoil their fun.

What we do want is for people to stay safe, and ensure that fireworks are purchased and used appropriately, while taking into consideration other people in their community when letting off fireworks.”

You can report any concerns about safety of fireworks in shops, or underage sales to Trading Standards on 0121 704 8000.

Complaints about firework misuse in public places should be reported to the police on 0845 113 5000.
