A WORRIED pensioner dialled 999 over the New Year – after spotting hundreds of eerie objects floating in the sky.
The Elmdon resident, who wished to remain nameless, was ill with bronchitis when she spotted the white sword -shaped items descending into nearby gardens.
Calling down to her husband, the pair watched entranced as the objects landed on the same spot, and fizzled out one by one.
The 72-year-old said: “I was ill in bed with bronchitis, and saw their reflection in my mirrored wardrobes.
“I had never seen anything like it before.”
Concerned by now –
the couple – who later discovered they were watching Chinese lanterns – decided the local bobby would
know what the strange objects were and called
the emergency services,
who said they would
send an officer to their home.
Within half an hour a policeman arrived, but the light show had ended.
“I was surprised the policeman came out,” the pensioner said.
“I did say it’s not an emergency, or anything like that but I just didn’t know who to call.”
A spokesperson for Solihull Police said: “Solihull Police did not receive any more calls about Chinese lanterns over the New Year’s Eve period.
“Officers were sent to this lady’s home to help provide reassurance for her because she was obviously concerned.”
