WITH regard to the current controversy about the downgrading of Solihull’s maternity services, I simply can not understand how some people can be daft enough to believe that this proposal is an improvement on what we have now.
Others have already pointed out the most obvious flaws in ‘the grand plan’, but it’s as well to remember that not 20 years ago Solihull had a fully-staffed maternity unit that was the envy of the West Midlands, together with a fully operational A&E unit, renal, cardiac and thoracic facilities that were capable of getting the job done.
All we have now is a very pretty frontage with lots of signs, a new car park, an extra crowd of office-wallahs and precious little else! It’s high time that we stopped the rot.
