SHIRLEY chef Aaron Darnley has cooked up a storm in a worldwide competition.
Last month, the young cook flew out to Chile to represent his country at the Global Chefs Challenge.
He had the chance to pit his skills against chefs from around the world and finished a respectable fifth.
Grandad Robert said: “When you consider he was up against all these top people from around the world, it’s very impressive. The gentleman that won was from Canada and after the competition, he apparently went over and praised Aaron.
“Evidently a lot of the people who took part go all around the world competing - almost like a football team. ”
Following his trip to South America, Aaron has now returned to work at Edmunds - a restaurant at Brindley Place, Birmingham.
It’s been a busy few months for the Silhillian, who finished as the runner-up in the British Culinary Federation Young Chef of the Year 2009.
He was pipped to first place by Birmingham-born Helen Evans, who works just down the road from Aaron at a restaurant in Edgbaston.
