Summer of jams looms for drivers

COMMUTERS are facing a summer of traffic jams and diversions as Severn Trent embarks on a £1 million project to replace ageing water mains along the B4146 Yardley Road.

COMMUTERS are facing a summer of traffic jams and diversions as Severn Trent embarks on a £1 million project to replace ageing water mains along the B4146 Yardley Road.

The route, a key traffic artery, is part of the city’s outer circle that links Acocks Green to the Swan Island at Yardley.

As a result the water company is to hold an informal public meeting to discuss with local businesses and residents its plans for road closures and diversions.

The Yardley Road scheme is due to enter its second phase from July 25, with the meeting planned for an ‘open morning’ at Acocks Green Library, Shirley Road on Wednesday, June 24.

Paul Winterton, project leader for Severn Trent Water, said: “Over the school summer holidays we will be closing sections of Yardley Road to complete vital water mains replacement work.

“We have been consulting with local traders about how this work may affect them and the public meeting will give us the chance to meet with a wider audience to explain the benefits of the works, as well as to show them the plans of the road closures and diversions so everyone is fully aware of what is going on.”

Representatives from Severn Trent Water will be on hand from 9am-12pm to answer any questions on the scheme and all are welcome to attend.
