Sun sets on firm that left hundreds out of pocket

A SOLAR panel firm which has left hundreds of customers out of pocket has closed.

A SOLAR panel firm which has left hundreds of customers out of pocket has closed.

The Solihull News reported on Redditch-based Energy Saving Group last December after John Jay from Bentley Heath contacted us.

The Slater Road resident had paid £500 to the firm more than a year ago to have solar panels installed but was then told his roof space was unsuitable and he would receive a refund.

He is still waiting.

Now another Solihull resident has contacted this paper to say he has written and telephoned the Albert Street office, again since November 2011, and had been fobbed off countless times.

“It seemed a good deal at the time but then I didn’t hear from them for months so I wrote to and called them,” he said.

“I did talk to a guy called Andy several times who was helpful and I last spoke to him on January 3 when he said the company would definitely arrange for the installation.

“He has now left the company and I went to their offices last week and they had gone.”

A spokesperson for Solihull Council said local trading standards officers were assisting Worcestershire colleagues and confirmed they had received a number of complaints from borough residents.

The firm has featured on Watchdog, the BBC’s consumer programme after dozens of complaints were received across the country.
