A YOUNG fundraiser from Monkspath who has collected thousands for charity is now preparing to tackle her toughest challenge yet - a 25-mile swim in seven days.
Seven-year-old Millie Checkley was recently nominated in the Just Giving Awards 2012 - for young fundraisers.
Millie attended Shoreditch Town Hall earlier this month for the prestigious event, where she was praised for her fundraising efforts.
Millie started fundraising after losing her grandad to leukaemia when she was just four. She has collected over £7,000 for charities, including Diabetes UK, the Renal Clinic, Cystic Fibrosis and Help for Heroes.
Tragically, Millie’s grandmother also lost her battle with cancer recently and so the youngster has now decided to throw her support behind Macmillan.
Proud mum Mary said: “Millie has been fundraising for half her life. She had a natural flair for swimming from a young age and it is something she enjoys doing.
“It was amazing for her to be nominated for the award but she really deserved it, she has worked very hard.”
Millie is teaming up with Fraser Terry, aged 10, from Solihull, for the swim. Fraser is raising funds for Air Ambulance.
