Switched on to festive lights

AN evening of festive fun is guaranteed at this year's Christmas lights switch-on in Mell Square Shopping Centre with BRMB'S Elliott and Caroline set to host the actionpacked event on November 27.

Castle Bromwich Junior School Choir begin the entertainment at 3.45pm followed by children's TV favourite Spongebob Squarepants and best friend Patrick who will delight youngsters live on stage at 4.25 pm and 5.25 pm.

Local singer Leah will then be entertaining the crowd at 4.50pm.

At 5.40pm, Santa's Christmas procession begins at Drury Lane, featuring a procession of superheroes and villains, including Spiderman, Darth Vader and Batman.

At 6pm, Santa will join Spongebob and Patrick, the Mayor of Solihull, a Mr Bean lookalike and the winner of Solihull's Shining Star competition, for the countdown to switch on the Christmas lights.

Children will also be able to post their letters to Father Christmas at a special Santa post box which will be sited outside Woolworths in Mell Square until December 11, Paul Round, Mell Square Shopping Centre manager, said: "We have become known for hosting one of the best Christmas switch-on events in the region and, with this fantastic line up, this year looks set to be no exception.

"I am really looking forward to the event which will provide a fantastic start to our bumper Christmas events programme which includes a continental market, a Christmas craft market and much, much more."
